Red Marks On Child's Back. Painful To Touch. Help

Last week, a strange looking red mark appeared on my son's back one morning. It was not there the night he went to sleep. It is located directly in the center of his back - on his spine. It almost looks like a burn mark. About the size of a large cigarette or small cigar in diameter. It is painful to the touch. After not being able to identify the cause, we shrugged it off. Now, a week later, my daughter wakes up with the same exact mark, in the same exact spot on her back. Again - NOT there the night before. What could it be? At this point I'm even wondering if it could be some kind of demonic presence in the house. Hoping for a more scientific answer than that. Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,

It is most probable that this should be an allergic reaction to something, most probably an insect or parasite somewhere around that you might not have identified yet. the classical redness and pain are signs of an acute inflammatory/allergic reaction. Washing and ironing all their dresses and bedding before putting them on could be an initial first step. searching the room, effective cleaning and airing of the room could be very helpful in case this could be some acarians parasite in the room.

Having a careful recall of sites they visited lately or played around which they were not used to visiting could actually help too. Persistence, intensification or more sever symptoms should prompt consultation with the family physician. It really should be very far from a demonic or spiritual attack. Thanks and hope this helps. Kind regards,

Bain LE, MD.
