Pellet Like Stools, Gurgling Noise In Stomach, Burning Feeling In Anus. Any Thoughts?

Hi. I am 27 years old and 7 months postpartum. For the past 2 months or so, I ve been having pellet like bm s. Then for a weekend I will have diarrhea , or a somewhat normal one. Now it s back to pellets, sometimes dark, sometimes normal color, sometimes a little brownish yellowish, and sometimes it looks like it has mucus in it. At the same time, I am always very bloated, and my stomach will make some crazy noises, gurgles and more. The past couple of days, I have noticed that in and around my anus I have a burning/aching feeling. I have an apt with my doctor tomorrow, but I was just wondering if some of you might have any suggestions on what this could be. I always think worst case scenario, so of course I m convinced I have cancer . :( Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Young 27 years old female, 7 months postpartum has problems with pellet stools, gurgling and bloating.
The cause of your symptoms can be colon loaded with fecoliths wherein only part of it is evacuated.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult your Doctor and request for following:
X-ray of abdomen in standing position.
If there are fecoliths the best way to get a soap-water enema till all the fecoliths are expelled.
Not this can help the stool softeners and laxative to work properly.
Identify the factors, foods and beverages that cause pellet stools and avoid these altogether.
Have increased natural fibers or take Isabgol husk with water on alternate days.
Exercises, change of routine helps a lot if there is a factor of IBS-C that is irritable bowel syndrome of constipation category.
This will automatically helps with bloating and gurgling.
If this continues then you may need Barium Meals studies for small intestine and CT scan to rule out any other factors that are causing symptoms and wither rule these out or if found then get specific treatment.
There may not be cancer in such an early stage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
