Pain In Neck, Swollen Finger Tips. Taking Tramadol. History Of Cervical Stenosis, Acute Spinal Degenerative Disc And Arthritis. Cervical Spinal Fusion Done

I am a 50 year old female. I had a cervical c5-c6 spinal fusion in 1998. Over the past few years I had begun to have pain issues with my neck, arms and hands. I was told that the surgery area was beginning to deteriorate and that I had cervical stenosis and acute spinal degenerative disc and arthritis above and below the surgery as well. I have been put on Disability, and am taking 200-400 mgs if Tramadol, and 800 mg 3 times a day. My question is this... I have been having such terrible pain in both of my neck/shoulders, arms, down into my hands. My arms and hands ache so very badly that it wakes me up. It almost feels like someone is squeezing my arm at the top of my bicep so hard that blood is getting cut off combined with having a constant feeling of hitting my funny bone. Every joint in my hands aches and hurts so, so bad to open and close them...and often look swollen, like water retention, and tingle, especially the tips of my fingers. What can I do? What is this?

Hello,

The pain is called radiculopathy. this is because of involvement of spinal cord and the nerve root due to cervical spine degeneration.

Medication can offer you little help at this stage.
Physiotherapy should be done under medical supervision.
