Pain In Foot, Swelling, Limping While Walking. Possible Reason?

Hi,

I have a pain in my foot following a soccer game. It's located in the top left centre of my left foot, with some swelling compared to my other foot, but no sign of bruising. It doesn't hurt really to massage the area but is causing me to limp when walking, especially when lifting the foot off the floor. i've iced it following the game, which has helped. I don't think the pain is strong enough to indicate a fracture - any other possibilities?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

The fact that you are able to bear weight on the leg indicates that there is no serious bony injury.

Most propably, it could be a sprain involving the ligaments.

The general treatment guidelines are as follows -
* Protection in the form of any splint or brace
* Rest to the injured area
* Ice packing of the affected part
* Elastic compression bandage around the swollen site
* Limb elevation
* Analgesic medications as needed

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury or muscle strain .
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of foot under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
Hope this will helps you. Take care.

Hi, pain and swelling in your foot seems to be due to muscle strain.
giving rest to the foot and taking ibuprofen will be helpful.
hope this helps.
