Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Based on your description, your sister seems to have had a brain tumor with hydrocephalus (excess water accumulation in the brain).

Tumor has been removed by an operation, and the excess fluid frmo brain is diverted out by VP shunt.

The coma can be due to damage of vital structures in the brain, fits, or electrolyte imbalance (such as very low sodium).

The exact cause can be found out by the treating doctor and appropriate treatment given for the same.

Best wishes,

It is really very critical time you her,my best wishes with her for early recovery.Actually the VP Shunt is done in case there is accumulation of brain fluid (CSF) INSIDE BRAIN becouse of block in it drainage pathway. Her recovery depends on Her age, Status before surgery, extent and nature of brain tumour, other associated diseases.AND PRESENT NEUROLOGICAL STATUS(GCS).
