Open Compound Fracture Of Right Calcaneus, Constant Pain. Will It Disable Me For Rest Of My Life?

I suffered an open compound fracture of my right calcaneus in May. I am in constant pain and can only tolerate short periods on my feet. I was a RN working 12 hr shifts in an open heart unit. My surgeon told me I have to get a desk job. Is this injury going to disable me for the rest of my life. I am only 47 and healthy.
