On Iron Supplements For Low Iron Levels, Still Low. What Could It Be ?

Hi, my son s pediatrician told me that my son s iron levels were a little low and she gave me iron supplements to give him for 2 weeks. I did, and I went back to check it again, and they re still low. I am wondering what could this be? Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
From the report it seems that hemoglobin of your son is not much low.
You continue the treatment minimum of one-two months for getting maximum result.
At this age one possibility of having worm infestations a common problem so go for stool examination
for ova and cyst and after report go for the treatment accordingly.
Give him plenty of fresh fruits, juices and green vegetable soups.
Ok and bye.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Iron may be supplemented for 1 to 3 months depending on the iron stores.
Worm infestation if present, to be treated with antihelminthic drug as this might be cause of anemia.
Supplementation of other hematinics like vitamin B12, folic acid and vitamin C to be added in addition to iron if there is no appropriate response.
Hope I have answered you query.
