Not Able To Gain Weight. Suffering From Anorexia. Causes Of Not Gaining Weight?

I have been suffering from anorexia for 7 years now and have been trying to gain weight. I am 5'1" and weigh about 70lbs. Despite this, I eat over 2200 calories a day and still do not gain any weight. I am wondering now, is it possible that I could have damaged my body's absorption, or do I have some sort of illness or complication such as an over active thyroid or sensitivity to gluten? I do not have a doctor. What are the possibilities that it could be?

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.

Weight of an individual is predetermined by genetic composition. It is however modified by diet factors, hormone/endocrine factors and other external factors.
A strict diet containing proteinaceous supplements is absolutely essential.

Individuals who are significantly underweight or recovering from anorexia nervosa can indulge in foods that are energy-dense and high-calorie with the intent to add weight, muscle, and fat to their frames. In order to gain weight, you must increase your calorie intake and ensure that you burn fewer calories through exercise and daily activities than you consume through daily meals and snacks.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and Informative.

Hi there, thanks for asking. Gaining weight for people who are underweight needs supplements and vitamins more than the amount necessary for a person with normal weight. You can ask about it more from a dietician. Best
