No Bowel Movement After Hernia Surgery. Bile Found In Stomach. Possible Cause?

My husband has just had hernia surgery on Sat. He has not had a bowel movement since then. I finally had a gastrologist in they did an upper GI today and found bile in his stomach. They did a lower GI on sunday and found nothing. What would cause bile in the stomach area, & is it coming from the liver. My name is Angela.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi Angela ! It is too early (just two days post surgery) to consider this problem to be pathological. If there is no distension of the abdomen, he is normally passing gases and there is no discomfort or pain in the abdomen on oral intake of food which must have started by now, there is nothing to worry, and I will not go for an upper GI at this stage. So, if these are normal, I do not think it to be a matter of concern, and give some time for the bowel to move normally, and at best you can put in a glycerine suppository for him. Wishing you and your husband good luck.

General & Family Physician Dr. Het Ram Bishnoi 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
As your husband operated for hernia ( may be inguinal hernia ).
Sometimes due to constipation interabdominal pressure increases ,hence pyloric opening opened and bile may enter into stomach ( this is not unusual).
Liver in itself don't have any direct connection with stomach .
Good luck.
