Need Treatment For Breathing Problem With Swollen Epiglottis
My daughter is 7 and is very sick. She s been sick for going on 10 days now. I ve had her to several ER s, Emergency Care, Regular Doctor and now to ENT Doctor. This all started suddenly waking from a dead sleep to gasping for air and having a hard time breathing. She was finally given a steriod and after she completed taking the medicine her epiglittis showed up in the back of her throat so away we went again to the ER. They said it was nothing but allergies and referred us to a ENT Doctor. He swabbed her for both Strep and Mono and did blood work. She tested negative for Mono and the blood work came back good and we are still waiting on Strep result. But she is still having trouble breathing and eating since this all began 10 days ago. Do you think she could have the Epiglittis infection? It has a lot of her symptoms....Very Worried....Please help.

Epiglottitis usually present as fever,sorethroat,difficulty in breathing and swallowing.There might be drooling of saliva too due to difficulty in swallowing.
It is considered as a dangerous situation as it might compromise the airway.
It usually starts with a fever and onset won't be that abrupt as you explained and the child will be relatively sick.
If you have still concerns and child is having fever too,its important that a course of antibiotics should be started.A short course of steroids and antihistamines may be added too.
