My Son Who Is Turning 13 In A Couple Of

My son who is turning 13 in a couple of weeks, has complained of stomach pains, lack of appetite, nervousness, scared to leave the home, and doesn't want his mom or dad to leave him, whether socially or by death. His grandmother passed away over a year ago, but he was very adult about it and choose to say words at her funeral. But up until this past April he's felt fine, happy, had a good appetite, and loves school. He's been an honor roll student since 3rd grade. This summer just became a strange downward spiral, for no reason we can understand, he has mentioned that puberty issues are scary to him at times, and not wanting to go up and go to college. He excels in art, is on the Jr PGA CIRCUIT, as well as the golf team at his Christian school, he is possibly the youngest, but holds his own, and truly enjoys golfing.

He did take intuitive 4mg and Concerta 32 for the last five years, does well on it, but we like to give him a break from them at summer. We know the correct way to wean, but regardless, these symptoms starting happening previous to the summer break.

My husband is a board certified endocrinologist and internal medicine doctor who retired 2 yrs ago, and he is baffled and very concerned, and since he is well respected amongst his colleagues , it makes me even more worried about what's going with our son. We have taken him to his PCP, and a gastroenterologist as well as the behaviorist physician who has seen him since 3yrs old and started the regime of medicine at 8-9 years old and works wonderfully. He suggested perhaps anxiety disorder and to try 5 mg lexapro oral, but after 3 days, he seemed more withdrawn and depressed, therefore we consulted the dr to discontinue it, which we have.

His blood work does show a low probably of celiac disease, and perhaps our next endeavor would be to get an endoscopy, but this is sudden, and never having these symptoms before, we preferred to try non invasive options first. Also we, meaning us as his parents and his own physicians, have ruled out any type of inappropriate behavior done to him. So we are extremely concerned about him, and want to know any options that may be given by your team of doctors.

Lastly, his symptoms seem most prevalent in the a.m. He seems to"perk up" after the noon time, as we try to engage him in swimming, movies etc. He has no sleep issues and is well rested each morning, but can't seem to not continue to dwell and have fears of eating or playing because of his stomach pains and reflux issues, that he states is hard for him to swallow. No fever, presently has a summer cold, recently was on a family reunion cruise, had great fun, lots of kids his age to play with.
