My Husband Has Rheumatic Arthritis. Under Doctors Orders, He Is

My husband has rheumatic arthritis. Under doctors orders, he is taking 6 large pills of sulfasalazine daily. Three In the morning and 3 in the evening. The problem is that when he began taking them he began vomiting and has a lot of phlegm. He has gone from 165 pounds and today weighs `20 pounds. He has had a scan with a medication which allows him to have pictures of his stomach and upper intestines. He took musinex for the phlegm. It helped a little but 12 mornings in a row he took one bight of his cereal and vomited. He was taking his medication with food as ordered. He has other side effects too. He just turned 84 years in July and is extremely tired and gets very dizzy when he tries to walk. His test results from the scan showed no problems, except slight problem with his liver. Is their a possibility he is allergic to the medication, and if so, is there another medication for his arthritis? Audrey Saltz
