My 3 year old son started complaining of "his butt hole hurting" 2 weeks ago. I have taken him to the doctor and they prescribed stool softeners. He has always been a once every three days bm kind of kid with the occasional week of regular daily bms (about every 4 months). He has always seemed to really have to strain to go but now he is in pain through out the day telling me his butthole hurts regardless of if he has or has not had a BM. The last two nights he has been up crying in pain although through the day he is okay with only the occasional demonstration of discomfort telling me his butthole hurts and lying on my lap. I feel like it is more than him just needing to go but can't seem to get further investigation. I worry because it seems to be getting worse. What can I do? Emergency room so the do some thorough testing is my thoughts.
