My 3 year old accidentally closed the toilet seat on his penis yesterday. That left him with a big red bruise, swelling, and a superficial cut on the skin at the base of his shaft. The cut bled alot and scared him, but closed quickly and has not reopened since. The problem is that now he's afraid of the toilet, has reverted wearing diapers and doesn't want me near his diaper area. The best I can do without him crying or freaking out is quickly spray Bactine (benzalconium CI, lidocaine HCI) during diaper changes and clean the area while he sleeps. I'm afraid that won't be enough since the skin around the cut is kind of reddening up a bit. I found a tube of Mupirocin 2% and another of Mometasone Furoate .1%, both prescribed for him about a year ago. Can I use these on him after I wash the area to help prevent infection and speed up healing?
