My 2 Years Old Son Swallowed Penny. He Didn't Had Motion Today. Any Thing To Worry?

Hello my 2 year old son swallowed a penny on Monday now it's Wednesday we went to the hospital they took an xray and they said to wait 3 days so he can poop it out.i been checking for the penny but no luck He's been using the bathroom normal except today hasn't pooped at all.

Thanks for writing in.

Swallowing a penny requires X ray of chest and abdomen to locate it exactly. As you have got an X ray done and it is located, I suggest you have a talk with the pediatric surgeon on any stool softners or medications to make the penny move forwards and come out in stool. Please give him soft diet appropriate for and take him to hospital if he is crying due to pain in the abdomen. The intestines are small in certain areas and the penny might have got stuck somewhere. X ray may be repeated as necessary.

You would have to continue monitoring his feces.

His body is not able to ingest the coin so it would have to be excreted. It may take a little longer than the time you are expecting but it should be expelled.
