Muscle Pain, Taking Omeprazole. Taking Medications For Ulcer, RA. Is Pain Side Effect Of Medication?

I have been taking omeprazole for 4 years and I have been having muscle pain in the front of my thigh for the past few months. I take omeprazole because I take prednisone and a baby aspirin and had an ulcer in the antrum in 2009. The prednisone, sulfasalazine and leflunomide that I take are for RA. I also take lisinopril and lipitor. Could the thigh pain be related to omeprazole?

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

From your description, I feel that the cause of your muscle pain in the thigh could be due to LIPITOR (atorvastatin) usage. Muscle pains & cramps are one of the most common sideeffects of statin therapy.

If the muscle pains are very severe and incapacitating , then either the dose of the drug should be reduced or a newer generation of statin like Rosuvastatin should be used.

Consult your treating physician and discuss the issues.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
