Muscle Cramps, Constipation, Insomnia, Confusion, Depression, Tsh Level 16.6. On Levothyroxine. Total Thyroidectomy Done. Suggestions?
I had a total thyroidectomy March 8th of this year. Now I have serious muscle cramps, constipation, insomnia, confusion and very depressed. Last week my doctor did a blood test and my TSH level was 16.6 - I am taking 100 mg of Levothyroxin daily (59 year old woman). I feel horrible now how can I get back to "normal"?
Hello, The symptoms you are exhibiting are due to hypothyridism and high levels of TSH has confirmed this. You must talk to your doctor and get the dose of levothyroxine increased. In fact the dose of levothyroxine has to be titrated till your TSH levels are brought to normal between the range of .3 to 3.0. Since high doses of levothyroxine also results in low levels of calcium, you are advised to take calcium supplement along wit your your current treatment. Discuss about these with our treating doctor. Thanks
