Mammogram Showed 5mm Well Circumscribed Overlaying Inferior Pectoralis Muscle Of Right Breast. Need To Worry?

I had mammogram 3 weeks ago that came back abnormal, Dr. said do another mammogram and follow up with ultra sound. I did and again it sowed 5mm well circumscribed overlaying inferior pectoralis muscle of right breast. Did not show up on ultra sound. They recommend another mammogram in 6 months. But it also listed it as a category III. Do I need to worry? I have never felt anything with self exams.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Category 3 mammogram means that the finding has a high chance of being a benign/non cancerous lesion (98% chance) but follow up with in a short time is indicated.
The findings are not expected to change significantly but since it has not been proven benign completely , the follow up is necessary.

The follow up is usually as your doctor suggested, within 6 months and regularly thereafter until the finding is known to be stable (at least 2 years).

This is done to avoid unnecessary biopsies.

The lesion is more than likely not dangerous they just have to do the follow up to make sure of this.

I hope this helps
