Psychiatrist 's  Response
thank you for your query. our vertebral column (back bone) contains a cavity called the spinal canal, which has the following parts in descending order- cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral; depending upon which part of the canal is forming the cavity. the vertebral column is made up of vertebrae and intervertibral discs in between two subsequent vertebrae. the spinal cord (a continuation of brain and source of all the nerves supplying the limbs and trunk) passes through the spinal canal.
your report means there is narrowing (stenosis) of moderate severity in the spinal canal at the level of cervical 5 and 6 vertebra (c5, c6). this stenosis resulted from osteophytes (bony spurs) at the posterior end of intervertebral disc at that level (usually caused due to chronic traction/ spondylosis etc). due to this stenosis, the spinal cord/ nerves coming out of it are irritated (? compressed), causing the pain and movement restrictions.
moreover, the thoracic/ dorsal spine shows mild chronic scoliosis, meaning the column is bend towards a side (either right or left) gradually, causing a stretch in the spinal cord and nerves at that level, increasing your symptoms further.
these conditions are managed and treated by a combined team of multi-specialists, consisting of Neurologists, Spine surgeons, orthopedicians, physical medicine specialists and physiotherapists. I would suggest you to visit a multi-speciality hospital having all these facilities for adequate management.
Hope I've been able to satisfy your query. Please don't hesitate to contact me for further clarifications if needed. thank you.

Radiologist Dr. Vivek Chail's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Let me explain your MRI in simple words

1. The spinal cord passes through a canal known as spinal canal , which is also called cervical canal in the neck portion on the spine. Due to bony overgrowth , there is significant reduction in the spinal canal diameter and this is called stenosis due to osteophyte complex. This is causing neural foramina narrowing.

2. Mild chronic scoliosis is the increased curvature of the spinal column to one side. This is mild in your case and attributed to long term findings.

3. C5-C6 disc degeneration is the loss of water content in the disc at level C5-C6 which is causing pressure on nerve roots and pain.

Your pain might be significant and requires a neurosurgery consultation.

Hope this helps
