MRI Report:chronic Lacunar Infarct Involving The Right Thalamus ,what Does This Mean?
In July my husband had an MRI after loss of immediate memory and it showed that he had a stroke (silent).
Then after a couple of weeks he felt bad s he went to the hospital and they found a blood clot in his left lung, and he was hospitalized for a week and he was kept on intrevinous blood thinners. He was released, and has been on warfarin since then. His memory has not improved and he is disoriented and feels bad most of the time so the doctor ordered another MRI of his brain. The report shows that he has a chronic lacunar infarct involving the right thalamus which was subacute at the time of the previous examination. Can you give us any information that might help us understand this report?

Hello memory problem could be due to minimal brain damage after mini infarcts. It could be after high blood pressure which has been poorly treated. Or the clot in the lung which could have been in his legs could also have affected his brain. He should be assessed why he has hyper coagualation state (some people may have sleep apnea, or protein C or factor 5 deficieny, etc. Consult with his doctor to see. Best wishes.
