MRI For Disc Herniation Done. What Does Findings Mean?
I'm a 35 yo male. I had an MRI 3 months ago for a disk herniations between c4-5 and 5-6. The MRI showed as expected but there was a line at the bottom that said " Marrow disk signal changes for which correlation with hemoglobin and hematocrit is recommended". I just saw this as I never followed up with the doc because the issues with the disk herniations got better. What does this mean, is it common and is it serious?
Marrow signals vary with age of a patient. In children, marrow produces blood cells and is called red marrow. In adults, the marrow slowly gets replace by fat containing yellow marrow. There is nothing like purely red or purely yellow marrow. When the proportion of red and yellow marrows are out of range for age, a correlation with blood components is recommended. that is the reason hemoglobin and hematocrit levels need to be done for you.
Hope this helps
