Lung biopsy report showing pulmonary fibrosis, diffuse interstitial infiltrates and reticular opacities. What does this mean?

my husband has had a lung biopsy . His results indicate changes of pulmonary fibrosis , diffuse interstitial infiltrates, but no focal acute infiltrates seen. No pneumothorax seen. However the most recent x-ray shows There are reticular opacities now seen at the left lung base that are new from the previous examination. These reticular infiltrates appear to localize to the lingula. Please explain if this means that things are getting worse. We re not sure we understand, and the doctors aren t telling us. Thank you.

Hi mbfrag

you must go for CT scan thorax and the disease may be bilateral. the sensitivity of chest xray is fairly low in this regard.
Alongwith you must go for tests for connective tissue disease :RA, ANA etc as these forms the treatable differential diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis.

once the diagnosis is made further treatment plan has to be devised.

best wishes
