Low Magnesium, Unable To Recognize Anyone, Anxious And Violent State, Tests Inconclusive. Any Ideas?

A relativer was just admitted to the hopsital. He woke up unable to receognize anyone. He was taken in the ambulance and was restrained due to his anxious and somewhat violent state. It has been a few days and many tests have been run. All we know is that his magnesium was very low when he arrived at the hospital. The tests haven t yielded any answers. Apparently he was a little confused over the past week and has been depressed and drinking quite a bit of late. He is the primary caretaker for his wife who has parkinson s, osteoporosis , and recently had hip replacement surgery, so his stress level has been high. He just turned 65 and is normally happy go lucky and has an agreeable nature. It has been three days and he still doesn t know anyone. Any ideas as to the cause?

Low magnesium level is unusal to cause such state like anxious behaviour or violent nature. He should be monitored for serum sodium, potassium and calcium level, whose alteration can cause such acute symptomso.
