Is Weight Gain A Side Effect Of Estrogen And Progesterone?

Hi Dr. Rynne: I am on estrogen and progesterone because I recently went through a frozen embryo transfer. I don t know yet if I am pregnant. I am wondering if weight gain is a side effect of these drugs. I have put on several pounds over the last few weeks - and I am constantly hungry. I am wondering if I need to cut back on my food intake or this is a normal side effect. Thank you! Emily

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Hormonal medications can be associated with weight change so it is possible that it would have contributed to your weight gain.

Maintaining a healthy diet would help to prevent any further weight gain so this is a good idea.
When you have the urge to eat, the use of healthy foods instead of foods that may cause weight gain would be best.

I hope this helps
