Is Vaginal Bleeding While On Norethisterone Normal?
Sir I had abnormal bleeding nearly 1 month ago, so was prescribed norethindrone 15 mg for first 5 days o.d, 10mg for next 20 day o.d, then 5 mg for last 10 days o.d until which my exam would hv been finished.. today is 3 Rd day of taking 5 mg but my bleeding started.. is it normal??? Should I continue d rest of my medicine or stop it??? 3 days r left for my exam..
Hi, No, you are not suppose to stop norethisterone. Stopping it will cause bleeding like a normal menstrual bleeding for 4-6 days. Norethisterone is a progesterone. As you have reduced the dose, the falling progesterone levels has caused the bleeding. If you can afford a 4-6 days normal periods, then you can stop it. I would have recommended my patient to go back to higher dose of 10-15mg if they want to avoid periods. But there are chances that the bleeding may not stop even after returning back to higher doses. Please consult your obstetrician for further details. I hope the above information helps. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. All the best for your exams.
