Is Topical Steroids Advisable For Itchy Bumps On Leg Caused Due To An Allergy?

I had two small bumps on my right leg yesterday morning, which turned into big bumps/welts that are itchy and it seems like the bump is from under the skin (if that makes sense). Went to see a doctor today, was told it is some form of allergic reaction, to what he could not say. I was prescribed topical steroids and steroid pills as well. I have just picked them up both and have applied the topical about an hour ago, it doesn t seem to help. I need to add that one of the welts (the smaller of the two), seemed to have a puncture (cannot find the right word exactly), which makes me wonder if it s a bite? However, the other welt does not have it.

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. The itchy bumps or welts can be due to allergic reaction from something. It can be insect bite reaction or after caterpillar bite. so that can be the puncture you see. If you send a picture then it will be more helpful in analysing the condition. Fungal infections like tenia corporis also can give such presentation. So I would suggest an ointment containing combination of anti fungal and corticosteroid for local application. You can get anti fungal- Miconazole and corticosteroid- Hydrocortisone combination cream over the counter in brands like Daktarin.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
