Is Tonsillectomy Advisable For A Child With Recurring Tonsils?

my son is 7 years and 8months old already, he is having a recurring tonsillitis every 6-8weeks of the past years of his life. When he was 6years old, his pedia told me to go under tonsillectomy if his tonsils didn't get smaller when he reach 7years old to prevent heart disease. now he is more than 7years old, but this year he only got tonsillitis every 3-4months. do I still need to bring him in ENT or pedia for tonsillectomy?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain tonsillitis occurring every 3 to 4 months is not abnormal and a normal child can get tonsillitis and throat infection 2 to 3 times in an year..
It is true that the tonsils regress in size with age and as your son has crossed 7 years of age you should once consult a Paediatrician and get him evaluated..

As far as getting Tonsillectomy done due to Tonsillitis is concerned, he is not having an abnormal frequency of Tonsillitis and you do not need Tonsillectomy done in this regard..

In case if his tonsils are regressing according to the age milestones then he does not need tonsil removal as well.

So get a consultation with a Pediatrician done for confirmation..

Hope this helps..

Thanks and regards.
