Is There Any Treatment For Copd Patient Other Than Antibiotics?
my father aged about 80 years is a copd patient. His left lung is destroyed. Very frequently he is getting infected from left to right causing a breathlessness. He is then no longer able to take food or make any movement. So at that time he is given antibiotiques of heave dose with intervenus injections.my question is, is there any treatment available without giving him antibiotique very frequently?
COPD is treated usually based on the stage of the disease and can include different inhaler medications, supplemental oxygen, physical therapy (such as use of incentive spirometry - a type of breathing exercise). N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) can also be used - this is a safe natural supplement, amino acid, which prevents mucus buildup in the respiratory tract.
Preventing mucous build up is helpful in preventing infections. If there is too much mucus in the lungs, or the mucus is not cleared, infection is more likely to happen. However when an infection does occur, antibiotics are the only way to treat it.
Good luck! Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
