Is There Any Particular Diet That My Daughter Needs To Follow After A Dog Bite?

My daughter was bitten by my neighbour s dog half an hour ago. The dog is not immunized but is healthy. She stamped on his tail as a result of which he bit her leg. The bite is not very deep but it bled a little. We washed it with Dettol and soap immediately. Is there any particular diet that she needs to follow after the dog bite?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
There is no particular diet to be followed after dog bite.
However, you have to get the child immunized against rabies.
The bite caused bleeding so it was a grade II/III injury.
The bite has to be profusely washed with soap and water for 10-15 minutes.
This has to be followed by tetanus toxoid and rabies vaccine.
The vaccine is given on day 0 (first day of bite),3,7, 14, 28 and booster at 90 days.
Since, the dog was not immunized immunoglobulins are also needed.
Immunoglobulins are quite expensive costing Rs 10,000-15,000 per injection.
However, precaution may be taken since many healthy looking animals are carrier of rabies virus.

Thanks and take care.
