Hi,
Wisdom teeth usually erupt within 18-25 years of age. Sometimes it may be impacted in an abnormal position which can result in pain and infection. An OPG xray can determine the exact position of the tooth. Then a surgical removal of the tooth is required.Medications can only relieve the pain for a short period of time. A permanent solution is surgical removal of the tooth.
Hi, if a wisdom tooth does not erupt completely, there is no alternative but to remove it. It may get carious, infected and may involve the jaw bone leading to severe pain, inflammation, swelling etc. So it would be better to follow your dentist's advise to avoid problems later on.
the wisdom tooth pain is due to this tooth not erupt properly in your jaw......or hit adjacent tooth during eruption...this called IMPACTION...the only treatment is removal of this tooth............
If there is no opposing wisdom tooth in the lower jaw its better to get it removed.
Sometimes there will be pain when the tooth is erupting fresh. In such cases you can take pain killers and wait.Even salt water gargling helps. If the dentist feels there is absolutely no space for it to come out totally then get it removed. But if the tooth has erupted, but if the pain is due to cavity, there is an opposing tooth, then you can save the tooth with RCT & crown.Take care
