Hi there.

Your son appears to have a gastrointestinal infection. Usually there is no requirement for medication for loose stools for baby of 6 months. You can give home-available fluids to prevent dehydration and soon loose stools will stop. Try giving dilute lemon juice, tender coconut water, milk, ragi porridge. Best solution to stop diarrhea will be Oral Rehydration Solution or ORS which is produced by WHO. You may dissolve one sachet in a litre of previously boiled water and give your baby as much as he likes to drink. This is very good treatment for diarrhea and prevents dehydration very effectively.

If the diarrhea does not stop or your baby is becoming weak, no tears on crying or less urine output, kindly take him back to Hospital as he may need intravenous treatment if dehydration is severe.

Wishing speedy recovery.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM
First of all I would like to inform you that loose motion is very common complaints in this age group. The treatment depends on where there is dehydration present or not. Most of the time the causes of loose motion is viral which needs no treatment as often it is self limiting. But when vomiting is present it should be treated.
I request you to look for his sign of dehydration(i.e-dry tongue, low urine output, dry skin, increased thirst ,poor activity etc.) and if present then immediately consult with your pediatrician.
Now the diet in loose motion, usually we advised to continue normal diet along with breast feeding.
Thanking you.
