Is There Any Effective Medication For Chronic Migraine Other Than Anti Depressants?

I just weened myself off of Topamax for my chronic migraines and my neurologist recommended that I start taking 10mg of nortriptlyine and increase the dosage by 10mg every week until Im at 30mg. I don t feel comfortable taking an anti depressant because Im a college student. I can t afford to be tired all the time and I don t want to gain weight!!! Should I find a different medication? Or do I even have to worry about those side effects with this drug at such a low dose?

Hi, welcome to Health care magic forum.
As you describe, there are side effects also for nortryptiline,if you feel like having the side effects, inform your doctor, regarding, and ask for a change. There are so many substitutes, including the injection forms, can be taken every fortnight.
Practice yoga, meditation, reading books of your interest and hearing music or any thing to divert you from the feelings.
If your doctor insists to take the medication, you can take it in the evening time,so that you wakes up fresh early in the morning.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
