Is There A Risk Of Lung Cancer To A Social Smoker?

Wondering about the risks of possible lung cancer to a 30 year old social smoker. My husband has been keeping his habit from me bc he knows I won't tolerate it around our children. Lost my godmother to lung cancer 4 years ago, don't ever want our kids to have to see us like that, so I'm vehemently against smoking.... Any answers would be appreciated.Thanx

Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
Yes even an occasional smoker may develop lung cancer after many years. Most men will increase the number of cigarettes over a period of time and it is a dangerous habit. It increase in number of cigarettes and passing years the chance of cancer keeps increasing. Smoking also results in various other cancers of the body and also diseases such as hypertension, paralysis, heart attack etc. So my advise for you is to counsel and convince your husband to stop smoking. Hope that answers your question.
Regards, Dr.Imaad.
