Is The Thyroid Level Worrisome For A 13-week-pregnant Woman?
Hi,8 years before I d started taking medication for thyroid(200 mcg).now my tsh got abnormal as 1 year before my doctor has reduced the dosage (from 200 to 100 mcg). now my tsh is 30.again I ve consulted another doctor.he said this dosage is not enough for me.so he added 50 mcg in addition.currently I m taking 150 mcg. Now I m 13 week pregnant.im being terrified with this tsh level.please suggest me whether I can take my old dosage level of 200 mcg
Let me tell you that hypothyroidism to the mother during pregnancy may result in developmental delay in the child. At 30 your TSH is high, so your doctor is right in increasing the dose by 50 mcg. The treatment goal of hypothyroidism in pregnancy is to maintain a thyroid hormone level within high normal range. You are also advised to get your TSH checked at regular intervals as your requirements may change. Please don't be panicky, everything is going to be alright.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
