Is The Skin Rash From West Nile Virus Localized?

Is the skin rash from West Nile virus localized or all over skin? I got approximately 15 mosquito bites yesterday in my backyard in Oakville Ontario Canada. I now have a 2 diameter dark red rash on my lower calf. I do not know if it was from a mosquito or not. All other bites are normal itchy bumps. This may have been another insect bite. Does west Nile symptoms happen this fast? YYYY@YYYY

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history you are having insect bite dermatitis.
Rash from West Nile fever is usually generalized.
My treatment advice is -
1. Wear full sleeve clothes to avoid further such episodes.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on affected skin.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
