Is The Fever Due To Inflammation Or Another Stone In Ureter?

On November 19, 2012, I began having a low grade fever. Tests showed I had a kidney stone in my left ureter, too big to pass. It was removed by laparoscopy on December 28, 2012. The doctor inserted a stent during the surgery and on January 2nd, the fever was back. I was hospitalized for 3 days with intravenous antibiotics. The fever continued. The stent was removed 3 weeks after the surgery. About a week after removal, the fever disappeared. Last week, around February 9, the fever came back on and off every 2-3 days. Went to the doctor and my left flank was sensitive. He said it was the area around the ureter and maybe there was inflamation or another stone. He ordered a Catscan. What do you think is happening?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The recurrent fever is due to repeated bouts of urinary infection from various reasons as :
- Uncontrolled previous infection
- Drug-resistant bacteria
- Residual calculus after surgery
- Inflammation of ureter
- Others.

The case requires detailed analysis with blood, urine culture, ultrasound of the KUB for further guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
