Is The Damage Due To Abusing Adderall Permanent?

I abused adderall for my last year in college taking anywhere from 40mg to 60mg in a sitting. Sometimes I would take these doses for 4-5 days at a time and not sleep. This was pretty consistent for the entire year. I was not prescribed any medications and have a VERY low tolerance to adderall. I'm afraid that I've damaged myself permanently as I no longer enjoy doing things that I used to do before the adderall use. I also find myself not to have extreme anxiety and am seeing a therapist and psychiatrist for this. Could I have damaged myself permanently? Are the effects repairable? Can I get an MRI done to see if I have actually done damage? I've been very anxious about this for about a month and need help bad!

Hi,

Please do not worry. With time, your body will gradually recover. It is possible there may be some lasting damage but you should not worry about that for at least a few more years from now. Discuss your loss of interest with your psychiatrist and therapist as they may help in managing it. An MRI can be done but will not be of much help as it can detect damage only in brain structure but not in cellular functioning.

Best wishes.
