Is Taking Pioglitazone Safe For Treatment Of Diabetes?

Is Pioglitazone is not safe. If yes then what is the alternate medicine to be taken. I am 60 years old diabetic patient having diabetes since last 10 years. The fasting sugar varies from 140 - 170 despite taking 16 units of Tresiba and combination of Metformin, Glimepride and Pioglitazone.

Hello,

Every drug has its pros and cons and no drug is safe to be taken without doctors prescription. As long as this drug is giving you benefits you can take it and let your doctor decide to change it. We doctors do not recommend this drug to patients with bladder cancer and heart failure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sameen Bin Naeem, General & Family Physician
