Is Taking Nyquil Safe Instead Of Promethazine For Pneumonia?

I have pneumonia and I am currently taking promethazine with codeine but have ran out, can nyquil cough be taken as a replacement until my refill prescription is taken care of? FYI I also have been prescribed an inhaler and I am taking 1 antibiotic a day.. Please inform. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, you can use nyquil as a replacement for the other cough and cold medicine.

This can normally be used with most medicines but if you wish you can provide the specific names of the antibiotic and inhaler so that they can be cross checked with the nyquil.

You can also check for interactions yourself online if this is more convenient.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
