Is Taking Letrozole Safe To Cure Delay In Conception?

Hello Doctor, we have been married for about 1.5 years. We are trying for a baby for the past 1.5 years and there is no good news so far. We had consulted a doctor and did the initial tests like Semen Analysis for myself and pelvic ultrasound tests for my wife. My semen analysis seems to be normal and for my wife, the report says Bilateral polycystic ovaries -- Bilateral ovary are bulky with multiple peripherally arranged small follicles and echogeneic stroma . Doctor said this may be normal for many ladies and still they may got conceived and since its already 1.5 yrs, our doctor suggested to take Letrozole or Clomiphere Citrate . We are not sure what are the side effects of this. Can you please advise

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Polycystic ovaries is a common cause of problems with conception.

In women with this condition, in addition to the cysts on the ovaries, there may also be hormonal changes as well.

Weight loss is also suppose to help improve the chance of getting pregnant in with polycystic ovaries as is the use of a medication called metformin.

In terms of the clomiphene, this may also be helpful because it helps with ovulation (release of eggs from the ovaries) and may improve chances.
Letrozole can also be used to help with fertility problems so she can use on of these.

There are possible side effects for either of these as with any medication or supplement but these effects may not occur.

Clomiphene side effects are: hot flashes, breast discomfort, headache , dizziness, tiredness, nervousness, nausea, vomiting
letrozole-hot flashes, tiredness, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, insomnia, weight gain

These effects may not occur.

I hope this helps
