Is Taking Hydroxychloroquine Safe While On Salazopyrin EN?
I have been taking salazopyrin for several years now. I take 2 x 500mg twice daily. I take these for long term rheumatoid arthritis. I also take 2x hydroxychloroquine tablets daily. My question is side effects. I was given material to read about these mess when I first started them. Unfortunately I threw these away after reading. I am now wanting to reacquaint myself with these side effects. Can you give me a quick run down of theses please? Thank you. Gail.
Hi & Welcome to HCM. Incomplete data like age, gender, etc. However, I can understand your concern. There's no harmful interaction between the two prescribed medications for rheumatoid arthritis. But, the use of Hydroxychloroquine is known to cause certain important side effects like blurring of the vision due to corneal deposits or retinopathy. You need to have periodic ophalmoscopic (eye) examination to detect this side effect. You should not continue Hydroxychloroquine once you develop these side effects. Other side effects including gryeing of the hairs, vomiting, ringing in the ears, vertigo etc. Hope this answers your query.
