Is Synyhroid Right Medicine For Hypothyroidism?

Just had a thyroid blood test. Here are my results: Prolactin = 5.6 TSH = .311 Free T4 = 1.32 Free T3 = 3.3. My doctor prescribed 50 mcg of Synthroid daily. Is this correct? I thought my test results were associated with Subclinical Hyperthyroidism. Isn't Synthroid for Hypothyroidism? Thank you.

Hi there,

Ideally you should provide the normal range for that particular lab as well. But for most of the labs, lower limit of TSH is somewhere around 0.4 to 0.5 microIU/L. So apparently yes, you seem to have subclinical hyperthyroidism and not hypothyroidism. So you should not be receiving synthyroid.

But still you should consider meeting physically with an endocrinologist with all your previous reports and medications, to be sure whether you need synthyroid or not.
