Is Swollen Cheek Post Root Canal Treatment Normal?

hi, I just had a root canal treatment done on my lower molar on Friday. It s now Sunday and although the pain has decreased significantly in my tooth after treatment, my cheek has swelled up a bit. The procedure took about 2 hours so my mouth was sore, but I just want want to make sure this is normal. The dentist gave me penicillin and hydrocodone, is that good enough?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you have got swelling after the root canal treatment then it is not a normal finding..
It is an indication that there is infection in root canal treated tooth and there can be recurrence of pus formation below the root tips of the tooth leading to swelling..
It needs to be addressed to your treating physician an you should consult your dentist and get evaluated and he/she can also take an x ray for confirming the exact reason for swelling..
In case if there is infection and pus formation re-cleaning of the root canals will be done followed by placement of anti bacterial dressing..
You will be asked to continue antibiotics and painkillers and along with it do cool compresses over the cheek..
You should get the final filling done only after the swelling, pain completely subsides..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
