Is Swimming Safe While Suffering From Proteus Mirabilis Infection?

I just got a culture back on a skin access. It is Proteus mirabilis. It was drained last week, and I m on a second antibiotic. I was given Keflex for 7 days and now sulfamethoxazole for 10 days. Its still draining a little. Can I go swimming with this? I m now on vacation, but have been staying out of the pool and ocean.

Hi there.
It is not a good idea to swim with an active infection/wound. One thing is the hygiene in that there is a risk of spreading the infection to someone else(more so in a public pool).
Secondly the chlorine in the pool water can really irritate any open wound.
Also there is a chance that the open or active skin lesion may contract another infection from the pool.
So swimming i think is not a good idea currently.
Hope this helps.
