Is Surgery Required To Treat Sinusitis Permanently?

Last Saturday my husband (36 yrs) was told that he has developed sinusitis. It is not troubling him too much right now. Yes, some throat irritation is there due to which he coughs. Then his nose gets blocked sometimes. But headache is not continuous anymore. How compulsory is it to get surgery done for permanent fix of sinusitis?

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain surgery in case of Sinusitis is done in individuals who have Chronic Sinusitis, anatomical disturbances in Sinus like polyp in sinus, recurring sinus infection, thick Infectious fluid in sinus that is not drained from nose, chronic sinus headache etc..
Surgery is not advisable in patients with allergic Sinusitis and Viral Infection as the relief is limited in these cases post surgery.
As your husband has been diagnosed recently with Sinusitis first of all antibiotics, painkillers, decongestant, saline nasal irrigation and steroids nasal spray has to be done to relieve the infection and the symptoms he has and in case if the infection does not resolve or there is continuous recurring infection then surgery can be thought off..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
