Is Surgery Advisable For Minor Stress Fracture In Tibia?

Hi! So I m getting a surgery tomorrow afternoon for a minor stress fracture that is not healing on its own. The doctor said hes going to put a rod from the knee down to help it heal. my stress fracture is very small, its only 1 third of the left tibia that is fractured. He said I will recover soon and I will be able to play soccer again in march. I want to get a second doctors opinion on what the approximate recovery time is? Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Any fracture irrespective of size needs some form of external or internal assistance to heal, when it is not healing by natural means.
Since you are having fracture of one of the long bones of the leg, namely tibia, which is weight bearing bone, it would certainly require internal assistance for the fracture to heal.
Kindly consider what your doctor has assessed and advised. Once the fracture heals, it would be assessed after few years and then the rod can be removed by a minor operation.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
