Is Surgery Advisable For Accumulated Synovial Fluid In Knee?
Hello Doctor, I am suffering from knee effusion from past 5 days and this is the second time I am facing this problem with in a month. I have got X-Ray, Ultrasound and MRI scan done and it says level 1 meniscus tear & gross effusion. Doctor said, surgery is not required for level 1 meniscus tear, but he insisted me to undergo a small surgery to remove the synovitis fluid and clean the synovitis tissue. I refused and asked him to aspirate the knee for this time (fluid measured more than 200ml) and I said if the fluid accumulates again I will go for surgery. Please suggest me a solution to this problem?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have accumulated synovial fluid in knee. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like torn ligament, particularly the anterior cruciate ligament , broken bones , osteoarthritis , arthritis or gout. First line of treatment should be medicines to reduce inflammation like oral corticosteroid . In case medicine therapy doesn't work then orthopedic surgeon may go for arthrocentesis , arthroscopy or joint replacement. Doctor may opt one of the above mention technique depending upon the diagnosis .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
