Is Sudden Loss Of Hearing In The Left Ear Something To Worry About?

I went to ear/nose/throat Dr. Five weeks ago and everything checked out well. Just normal aging hearing loss. Last week significant loss of hearing in left ear. Pressure. Robotic sound on the cell phone. Going back to Dr. Tomorrow but wanted a heads up if possible. Thanks.
