Is Spotting Normal While On Birth Control Pills?

Ok so my doctor prescribed me birth control pills due to having irregular periods. Well i started taking the pills on March 22,2015. I started spotting on April 16,2015. Started my period the very next day. Ok so on April 24,2015 my period stopped or so i thought. Since then i have been spotting blood, not enough to wear a pad. Is this normal? Can it be cause of the birth control pills?

Hello,

You have been prescribed birth control pills by your treating doctor for irregular periods. Presently, you are spotting. Not even enough to wear a pad. Spotting is commonly a side effect with low dose birth control pills or mini pills. Spotting is especially common in the first few months of starting a pill, and it decreases as you take the pill more consistently. In case spotting doesn’t decrease or cease entirely after three months on the pill, it may be worth discussing another oral contraceptive with your healthcare provider.

In the meantime, improve your general health condition as anemia may also cause spotting or irregular menses, avoid stress- it may trigger your symptom. Take food rich in iron, calcium and protein. You may take iron tonic or supplements also. To regularize periods you should take Uterine tonic, get connected with a Gynae. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
