Is Smoking Medical Marijuana Safe While Having An Abscessed Tooth?

Will smoking medical marijuana exasserbate my abcess tooth. I just had a core and three posts out in. I was pain free and we were simply recovering an old /failed crown. I wound up with an infection and marijuana helps with stress and pain for me. Will it prolong my infection? I m not worried at all about topical discomfort or adding to it. I m in loads already.

Hi..
Welcome to HCM..

As per your complain if you have an abscessed tooth than smoking Marijuana can cause increase in inflammation and pain and ultimately exaggerate the infection..
If you smoke Marijuana the effect of medication to reduce infection will also have a lesser effect although it will reduce pain sensation due to sedative action but it wil be temporary and will not provide permanent resolution..
In case if you get the tooth treated with root canal treatment, then in that case also the healing will be delayed and you will simply land up with complications..
So my suggestion is to avoid smoking Marijuana and consult your dentist so that he can take appropriate x rays and in case of abscess you can be first advised antibiotics and painkillers and in case if still there is no relief than root canal treatment of the tooth will be done to remove infection and fill it with inert filling material to prevent further recurrence of infection..

Hope this helps...

Regards.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have abscessed tooth due to which there is presence of infection in your oral cavity. Smoking marijuana will increase your symptoms as it will exaggerate infection. I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon once for proper examination and start with proper course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications. go for RCT of tooth if it is restorable and if it is not go for extraction. smoking marijuana will impair healing as well. Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
